I started this song Doesn’t Matter five years ago in Billy ‘Blanco’ White’s casita on top of a
mountain top,with the magical city of San Miguel de Allende Mexico below. Billy on his laptop
put down a live percussion groove, and I recorded sampled keyboards,interrupted occasionally
by rooftop barking dogs and Mexican marching band practice from across the valley. Billy
needed a melody to play electric guitar to,so we recorded my scratch vocal in his tiny kitchen. I
had the chorus but no verse lyrics, so I just made them up. And that’s the way the vocal stayed.
Three years later verse lyrics written, we put down bed tracks at the wonderful Noble Studios in
Toronto. Mark Kelso on drums, Neil Chapman on guitar and bass and me on grand piano, all
expertly recorded by Dajaun Martineau and mixed by him a week later. The song is a treatise
into believing in yourself, when others are doubting you and just plain knocking you down. Turn
away from that dark road that so called friends want you to travel, and reach for the light. Of
course easier said than done. Our egg shell exteriors are fragile and easily cracked.
